6XL - Contestant application: Rik Steelson

I had no idea it would take so long @__@ Basically I am joining up for the tournament so that I will be forced to produce art work. It's too easy to just go to work, come home, and go to sleep without writing or reading or drawing.

Personality:
Rik has created an art-form of being self centred and irritable - he rarely replies when asked a question unless it is with a sarcastic comment, and he is very quick to become offended. Rik's natural state of being is a general loathing of anything that isn't Rik. As his parents migrated from Arcelor, he feels that deep down he is a well-muscled manual labourer, salt-of-the-earth kind of guy, who is (incidentally) much better than anyone who lives in a squalid little swamp like Nreole - so he generally goes about the place only reluctantly engaging in interaction with strangers. Most people would say 'don't judge a book by its cover' but Rik's expression of apathetic loathing is a pretty good indication of the kind of person he is. Rik finds it especially difficult to interact with people of the female persuasion, and considers them foreign, mysterious, and alluring.

He has never enjoyed the idea of being a pokemon trainer (losers and swamp-weed wimps) and the only pokemon he has had to date is a weedle. He gave it away to a school-mate in exchange for a chocolate bar many years ago and hasn't had his own pokemon since. His attitude to work is slovenly, and lacklustre, as with everything he would rather not be doing. Rik's one great love is speeding. After his shift at work, he is inclined towards 'borrowing' one of the Seviper boats, taking it out into the swamp, putting on his huge earphones, and listening to Iron Cofagrigus (a rock band) as he pushes the vessel to dangerous speeds. Unfortunately this has occasionally resulted in the total loss of some of the boats, which have smashed into trees, or logs, or other bric-a-brac. Rik loves the adrenalin rush, and is not put off by the occasional scolding or dock in pay.

The only points of his personality that could be considered 'good' (or if that is too strong a word, then 'not bad') are his fierce independence, his determination to follow through on activities that he has personally decided to do, and a willingness to keep his job for as long as it takes to save the money for a sweet tape-deck.

Brief History:
Rik was born and raised in Nreole. He can speak French and English, but he butchers both languages. His parents were from Arcelor, but they moved to Nreole before Rik was born as they had family in the area. Rik has an older brother (Phil) who has moved back to Arcelor to become a foreman there – he is far more likeable than Rik. Rik's uncle (Matt) manages a branch of Seviper Taxis and took a inexplicable liking to Rik, allowing him to work at the company. At first Rik was only tasked with feeding the various pokemon involved in the operation, but as soon as he was eligible he was given the job of taxi driver. Despite his terrible track record, his uncle maintains a fondness for Rik, and will verbally beat down any customer who badmouths him.

More recently Rik's uncle has forced the teen into competing in the up coming Six Fold League Tourney after the destruction of yet another taxi-boat. He has mentioned almost constantly how he competed in one when he was young, and how it lead to him starting up in the taxi business. He hopes that the experience will encourage Rik to grow up and take more responsibility for his actions. In so doing he has provided Rik with three pokemon, and told him to promote the business wherever possible in order to pay off the massive debts he has accrued in smashing so many taxis.

Misc:
On entering the competition, and not knowing the names of his pokemon, Rik has called them all Tony – a name used by the person who registered directly before him. The pokemon do actually have their own names. The jacket he wears over his usual clothes is Rik's Taxi-Driver jacket. On the back it has a golden Seviper, and the left sleeve has the 'Slitherboat' logo.

Misc:
Coppink is Matt's favourite pokemon. They have been together for years, and Matt raised it from a shellder. It hates Rik, and jealously covets Matt's affection. It has agreed to report to Matt on occasion to keep him updated as to how Rik is going in the event.

Misc:
Ellisong is one of the many joltiks being used by Slitherboat Taxis. Each boat out in the swamp is equipped with a 'bug zapper' which equates to a fishing pole with a small caged joltik hung off the end. If something threatens the boat, lurking in the water, the joltik is lowered and will dicharge electricity to ward the thing off. The joltiks are not allowed to evolve, and Ellisong has decided that this is not the life she wants to lead. She is determined to use the confusion of battle to evolve, and free her brethren from service to Seviper Taxis.

Misc:
Gurowd is used to move ships around the yards inside the Slitherboat compound. He holds boats on his tusks and moves them from place to place. He is generally amiable and good natured, as well as extremely fond of sleeping.
